Music Full of Legacies
Music of the northern conductor – a patriotic symphonic poem Finlandia by Jean Sibelius – is a majestic and melodic piece that captures the character of the Finnish landscape. Another orchestral composition of the evening, Sergei Rachmaninoff’s Symphony No. 2, also abounds in broad melodic phrases, alternating between emotionally attuned passages with music depicting the fears and longings of its composer. These melodies have been used by many filmmakers in their movies, for example, in the star-studded Birdman by Spanish director Alejandro González Iñárritu or as the inspiration for the famous song All by Myself by Erica Carmen. The Concertino for Flute and Orchestra, composed by Ondřej Moťka, a member of the Moravian Philharmonic Orchestra, also evokes the atmosphere of the movie screens. The solo part of the concert will be performed by a flautist of the Olomouc Philharmonic, Eliška Honková.
