Italy, Inspiring
The German Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy and French composer Hector Berlioz were both inspired by Italy's picturesque nature and temperament, which were reflected in their famous symphonies. During his stay in Rome, the young Mendelssohn drafted his joyful Fourth Symphony, known as ̶0;Italian ̶0;, inspired by the local sights and people. In contrast, Berlioz's composition Harold in Italy, a programmatic piece for orchestra and solo violin, tells of the traveller Harold's travails. The viola part will be performed by the ̶0;first lady of the Czech viola, Kristina Fialová, who returns to Olomouc after four years.
