Christmas with Mahler and Mozart – public rehearsal
In Mozart’s Sinfonia Concertante for four solo wind instruments – oboe, clarinet, horn and bassoon – written in E-flat major, the principal players of the Moravian Philharmonic Orchestra will appear as soloists to offer the composer’s inexhaustible range of wit and playful ideas. A Christmas gift for the audience will also be the fourth symphony by Gustav Mahler, one of the greatest symphonists of all time, born on the Bohemian-Moravian border. The last movement of the piece is particularly well-known, singing of heavenly bliss and how children, angels and saints enjoy an abundance of food, spices, drink, fruit and meat. Soon after, a voice of repentance is heard, speaking of breaking the Ten Commandments.
