Cherubini’s Requiem
On the so-called Green Thursday before Easter, we will listen to the contemplative music of German and Italian Classicism. Ludwig van Beethoven’s second symphony was created at the very beginning of the 19th Century when the composer started to realize his illness and worsening hearing was likely uncurable. It’s a majestic piece reflecting the ceaseless fears, inner conflict and pain of the musical genius. It was Cherubini’s Requiem, which the composer deeply admired, that was played at Beethoven‘s funeral. Together with the Moravian Philharmonic, the Žerotín Academic Choir will perform in Olomouc Reduta. Slovakian conductor Peter Valentovič will lead both instrumental and vocal ensembles.
